University of Hong Kong: Capital Grants.
The Colonial University Grants Advisory Committee empowered its Chairman, Sir Hector Hetherington,
to act on its behalf in advising on the proposals submitted by the University of Hong Kong for the use of the capital grants totalling £500,000.
Sir Hector Hetherington has now considered the proposals, together with the Inter-University Council's statement that that Council approved of them on academic grounds. On behalf of the Colonial University Grants Advisory Committee he advises that the proposals be accepted and the necessary action be taken to make the grants available. In view of rapidly changing prices, he recommends that the provisional estimates accompanying the proposals should not be regarded as binding limitations and that the University should be granted a considerable measure of freedom to alter the proposals and plans within the scheme, provided that the grants are used to achieve the general programme of capital development submitted.
